Innovation PNG Awards

The Innovation PNG Awards were launched in 2019 by Business Advantage International and the Port Moresby Chamber of Commerce & Industry to celebrate and encourage innovation in PNG organisations and local communities. 

To encourage a greater cross section of submissions, the 2025 awards categories have been expanded from 2023 and included a total of four (4) categories as follows:

  1. The Innovation PNG Award for Small Business (open to businesses with less than 10 employees) Sponsored by Kina Bank
  2. The Innovation PNG Award for Large Business (open to businesses with 10 employees or more) Sponsored by Remington Group
  3. The Innovation PNG Award for Digital Government (open to Government agencies and departments) Sponsored by Nasfund
  4. The Innovation PNG Award for Female Innovator of the Year (open to female innovators from any sector) Sponsored by Moni Plus

Prizes

The winners were announced at a special Gala Awards Dinner at The Stanley Hotel on 27 March 2025.

Winners received 2 tickets to the Gala Awards dinner, a unique crystal glass winner's trophy, and have the chance to speak at Innovation PNG 2025 about their innovation. 

Judging

The awards were judged by an independent panel of international and local experts appointed by POMCCI and BAI. In entering the awards, all entrants acknowledged that the judges' decisions are final.

The awards shortlist was announced at a special POMCCI Women in Tech breakfast at the Lamana Hotel, Port Moresby on 27 February 2025. 

Small Business Award shortlist 

Environmental Health Development Agency WINNER 

This Lae-based business has developed an ingenious water station to assist village life. 


Bright Horizon Solutions 

Bright Horizon created an innovative app for creating ID cards for major events, which was trialled successfully during the Pope’s recent visit to PNG. 


Bobatom Tech and Consultancy SPECIAL COMMENDATION 

Bobatom have created an online learning platform for Flexible Open and Distance Education. 


Project Support Services/Productive Solar Solutions 

This Lae-based business has invented a range of solar-powered mills for smallholder farmers and is exploring its export potential. 


Gotronical SPECIAL COMMENDATION 

Jiwaka-based Gotronical Engineering has invented a new design for a sago extraction machine. 


Apeketon Business Hub 

Created in collaboration the Australian Business Volunteers, the hub supports SMEs on Lihir Island. 


Large Business Award shortlist 

Nasfund WINNER 

The superannuation fund is using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to deliver efficiencies in its back office processes. 


Markham Culverts SPECIAL COMMENDATION 

Lae-based Markham Culverts has developed a revolutionary new class of construction materials called Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCMs), to replace conventional concrete in erosion control applications. 


Kramer Asia-Pacific (PNG) Ltd SPECIAL COMMENDATION 

The engineering company is integrating smart solutions, sustainable materials, and community-driven engineering principles to create developments that withstand the increasing threats of climate change, extreme weather, and rapid urbanisation. 


CreditBank PNG SPECIAL COMMENDATION 

CreditBank has created a new tech-driven way on onboarding new customers in minutes. 


TISA Bank 

The new bank has implemented a solution that allows any walk-in customer to open an account and a obtain a personalised card instantly. 


MiBank SPECIAL COMMENDATION 

The finance company has development a new agency model to reach and service its customers. 


Digital Government shortlist 

Department of ICT WINNER 

The Department has devised a seamless online police clearance application process, which integrates online payments and biometric fingerprint capture. 


Green Finance Centre 

The Centre has been created under the auspices of the Bank of PNG to help facilitate and encourage the financing of green initiatives in PNG. 


Female Innovator of the Year - Joint Winners

The inaugural Innovation PNG Award for Female Innovator (Sponsored by Moni Plus) was split between two entrants. 

Pacific Palms Property’s Alumita Chan led the project to achieve high level EDGE environmental certification for Steamships’ corporate headquarters in Port Moresby. 

Meanwhile, BSP’s Penelope Aisi led the team which developed the bank’s recently launched Wantok Wallet mobile wallet.

  • 2023 Innovation PNG Award Winner (large business): MiBank
  • 2023 Innovation PNG Award Winner (government): Credit Guarantee Corporation.

The awards were judged by an expert panel led by the futurist, Dr Jane Thomason.
